FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers: Messi Included in Argentina Squad for Paraguay, Peru Matches

Head coach of the Argentine national team Lionel Scaloni announced today the squad for his country’s matches against Paraguay and Peru, which are part of the South American qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Lionel Messi is included in the squad despite being injured. Messi has only played for 37 minutes since Sep. 3 and has missed his club’s last three matches, his fifth absence in the last six games.

The squad also saw the absence of Angel Di Maria, who plays for Benfica in Portugal, due to injury.

The Argentine national team, which defeated Ecuador with a goal scored by Messi in the opening match of the qualifiers, will face Paraguay on Oct. 12, followed by an away match against Peru five days later.
