Brussels: The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) announced Thursday that the unemployment rate in the Eurozone remained steady at 6.3 percent in September, unchanged from the previous month.
According to Qatar News Agency, Eurostat clarified that this rate also showed no variation compared to the same period last year. Across the European Union as a whole, unemployment edged slightly higher to 6 percent, up from 5.9 percent in August, nearing its historic low. Eurostat estimates that 13.24 million people were unemployed in the EU during September, including 11 million within the Eurozone.
In France, the unemployment rate saw a marginal increase to 7.6 percent from 7.5 percent in August, according to harmonized Eurostat data. This figure remains higher than its two main neighbors: Germany at 3.9 percent (up from 3.7 percent) and Italy at 6.1 percent (up from 6.0 percent).
Within the EU, the lowest unemployment rates were recorded in Slovenia at 3.1 percent (up from 2.9 percent in August) and Malta at 3 percent (a slight rise from 2.9 percent). Conversely, the highest rates were observed in Spain at 10.5 percent (up from 10.3 percent), Finland at 9.8 percent (up from 9.7 percent), and Sweden at 8.7 percent, which remained unchanged.
According to Eurostat data, youth unemployment (under 25 years old) remained stable in the EU at 14.8 percent in September, while in the Eurozone it rose slightly to 14.4 percent, compared to 14.3 percent in the previous month.
