EU Advances Accession Talks with Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine, and Moldova

Brussels:European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has reaffirmed the European Union's commitment to advancing accession talks with Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine, and Moldova. She emphasized that prospective members must strategically align with the bloc and contribute to its security.

According to Qatar News Agency, Kos announced that four intergovernmental accession conferences involving the candidate countries are scheduled for the coming days, following a decision by EU member states. She highlighted that this marks the third time since June that the bloc has convened four such conferences within a single period, indicating a significant momentum in the enlargement process.

Kos commended the tangible progress made by countries at the forefront of the accession process, noting Ukraine's participation as a reflection of its exceptional determination to join the European Union. She also underscored the growing importance of security considerations in the enlargement process, stating that prospective members must enhance, rather than compromise, the bloc's security.

Furthermore, Kos mentioned that strategic alignment with the EU has become a crucial condition for membership. This requirement extends beyond foreign and security policy to include areas such as sanctions, energy, and infrastructure.
