Venice: Doha Film Institute (DFI) celebrates another major milestone with eight Institute-supported films selected for the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, reaffirming its commitment to championing independent filmmakers and bringing distinctive voices from the Arab world and beyond to the global stage. According to Qatar News Agency, the festival, taking place from September 2 to 12 at the Lido di Venezia, will feature DFI-supported films across four key programmes: the Orizzonti Competition, Venice Spotlight, the Venice Gap-Financing Market, and Final Cut. Chief Executive Officer of Doha Film Institute, Fatma Hassan Alremaihi, commented on the selection, emphasizing the importance of cinema in preserving memory and expanding understanding. She noted that DFI aims to support filmmakers in transforming unique experiences into stories that resonate globally. In the Orizzonti Competition, which focuses on aesthetic and expressive trends in international cinema, House of the Wind by Bernard Auguste Ko uemo Yanghu has been selected. Meanwhile, Conversation with the Sea by Muayad Alayan will be showcased in Venice Spotlight, highlighting innovative and creatively original works. The Venice Gap-Financing Market, which connects filmmakers with potential collaborators and financiers, features two DFI-supported films: Faux Bijoux by Jessy Moussallem and Wolfmother by Ismael El Iraki. Additionally, four DFI-backed projects will be presented in the Final Cut in Venice programme, designed to support films in post-production. These include A Quarter to Thursday by Sofia Djama, Eldorado, The Taste of the South by Alaa Eddine Aljem, Occupational Hazards by Bassel Ghandour, and Plague by Youssef Chebbi. The selection of these eight films highlights DFI's dedication to investing in filmmakers at different stages of their creative journeys. Through its various initiatives, DFI continues to foster a more diverse and interconnected global film ecosystem, having supported over 1000 films from more than 85 countries to da te.
