Ehsan to Mark International Day for Older Persons on First of October

The Elderly Empowerment and Care Center (Ehsan), one of the centers of Qatar Foundation for Social Work (QFSW), affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development and Family, will celebrate the International Day for Older Persons on Oct. 1,2023.

The Centers celebration this year will include the launch of an awareness campaign on social media, through which the focus will be on the importance of enhancing and highlighting the role of the elderly and their achievements, and investing in their experiences, beside highlighting the important contributions that older people make to society, benefiting from them, and raising awareness of the opportunities and challenges of aging in todays world.

The Center, in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Development and Family, will celebrate for the first time this year the Arab Day for Older Persons after the decision of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States at its 42nd session of the Arab Social Affairs Council to celebrate the Arab Day for Older
Persons, based on the proposal of the State of Qatar to designate October 10 of each year as an Arab Day for Older Persons, starting in 2023, to celebrate the elderly in the Arab world, empower them in Arab societies, and spread awareness of their issues and rights.

As part of the celebration of the Arab Day for Older Persons, a symposium will be organized on the role of school curricula in enhancing communication between generations.

During the month of October, the programs will focus on raising awareness of the rights of the elderly and their various achievements, and seeking through intensifying the programs to change the societal view towards the elderly, empower them and highlight their aspects of giving, experiences and various achievements, in addition to achieving communication between generations and seeking to find possible solutions to bridge the gap between them, and using modern technology positively and improving the pattern of communication between generations.
