Cairo: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi engaged in a phone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to deliberate the ongoing efforts to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
According to Qatar News Agency, the discussion involved President El-Sisi reviewing the details of an agreement reached on October 8 in Sharm El-Sheikh and outlining Egypt’s vision for the next phase. The mechanisms for implementing the agreement were based on US President Donald Trump’s plan. President El-Sisi emphasized the significance of maintaining the role of the Palestinian Authority and setting the stage for the creation of a Palestinian state aligned with international legitimacy resolutions.
Chancellor Merz stated Germany’s support for the agreement and expressed hope that it would serve as a step towards achieving enduring peace in the region. He also conveyed interest in Egypt hosting the Gaza Reconstruction Conference. The conversation further covered the broader bilateral relations between Egypt, Germany, and the European Union.
