Doha: Egypt hailed Wednesday the decision by the governments of the Netherlands and Belgium to ban trade in goods originating from Israeli settlements established in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that the move represents support for justice, manifesting a practical action in line with the principles of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy. The statement highlighted Security Council Resolution 2334, which emphasizes the illegitimacy of settlements and calls for their immediate cessation to protect opportunities for peace and the two-state solution.

The ministry urged all EU countries and the international community to adopt similar measures to ban settlement products, aligning with the recent decisions of the Netherlands and Belgium. The statement further emphasized that achieving security and peace in the Middle East depends on ending the occupation and enabling the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate rights, particularly the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign state along the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
