Draw Determines 20 Teams Participating in Al Galayel Tournament 2024


The Organizing Committee for the 13th Al Galayel Tournament for Traditional Hunting 2024 held the draw at the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) to determine the 20 teams participating in the upcoming event.



The Al Galayel Tournament is held with the support of the Social and Sport Contribution Fund (Daam).



The draw placed the 20 teams in four different groups. The first group includes Al Tahadi, Al Daayen, Al Nakhsh, Shaman and Barzan. The second group includes Al Rayyan, Al Sailiya, Theyab, Bu Hadi and Dukhan.



The third group includes Al Shaqab, Al Husen, Al Udayd, Al Shamal and Lafan. The fourth group includes Al Toofan, Suhail, Mesaimeer, Haloul and Laijlaa.



Al Galayel Tournament for Traditional Hunting is considered one of the most important and exciting tournaments that reflects the hunter’s skill in the inherited traditional hunting, which is known in Arab and Qatari culture in particular.



General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti stated that the tournament has become one of the most important heritage, cultural and community events held by Katara.



Katara aims through these types of events to preserve and spread the heritage and culture of Qatar in all its forms, in addition to introducing it to the current generation, which is also one of Al Galayel’s goals.



Al Sulaiti said that the Al Galayel Tournament is one of the most successful tournaments held by Katara, which attracts enthusiasts from a large part of Qatar’s society at different ages. The tournament also has a wide audience from the GCC countries.



He furthermore expressed his thanks to the Organizing Committee of the tournament who are doing their best to present the best possible version of the event in terms of development and excitement. He wished all the best for the participating teams, and for the ones that did not qualify to have better luck in the next editions.



On his part, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of Al Galayel Tournament for Traditional Hunting 2024 Khalid bin Mohammed Al Maadeed said that the new edition emphasizes the professionalism of the hunters in Qatar, as the history of the tournament which has been established for 13 years now reflects the extent of the Qatari hunters ability to adventure.



He pointed out that the members of the Organizing Committee and the supporting committees are working hard to present the tournament in a manner that befits the name and reputation of Al Galayel and its long history among the huntting tournaments.



Al Maadeed noted that the tournament has an established audience and that the participating teams have become aware of the organizing laws, and therefore the laws that were established in the previous edition of the tournament will continue to enhance the professionalism of the tournament.



He explained that the hunting would start on the first day and the entry would be at nine in the morning every day according to the teams’ schedule. Al Maadeed stressed that all teams must prepare their place of stay during the tournament, as the 20 teams are now in a more professional and prepared stage.



The Organizing Committee is always working to innovate the tournament and to have the event reflect real hunting practices in a natural environment, with an equipped camp and a world-class control room, Al Maadeed added.



For his part, the Vice-Chairman of the Organizing Committee of Al Galayel Tournament for Traditional Hunting and Executive Director of the tournament Mohammed bin Nahar Al Nuaimi that they take the reactions of the participants and audience to reflect the success of the Al Galayel Tournament.



He added that the teams are now more experienced which increases the excitement of the tournament. Al Nuaimi noted that among the conditions of the tournament is that the leadership of the team is limited to Qataris, while in each team there should be two people from the same tribe maximum.



Al Nuaimi explained that the teams are required to provide all living necessities and hunting means approved by the Committee and the team has the right to use all types of animals for transportation, in addition to adhering to many other technical conditions set by the Committee.



The first-place team will receive a cash prize of QR one million. The second-place winner will get QR 700,000, while the third place will win QR 500,000.



An amount of QR 10,000 is also awarded to each member of a team that qualified for the final of the tournament, as well as a reward of QR 5,000 for each participating member of a team that did not qualify for the final, provided that they competed throughout the group period until the day of exit.



The award for the best press coverage for local newspapers is QR 10,000. (QNA)
