Tokyo: The US dollar held near its lowest level in ten days Tuesday, while the Japanese yen fluctuated around the 160-per-dollar level, amid improving global market sentiment. The dollar index, which measures the US currency against six major peers, was at 99.66.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Japanese yen held at 160.23 per US dollar, hovering near the 160 level amid continued market caution over the possibility of official intervention to support the currency. The euro remained steady at $1.159, while the British pound stood at $1.3413 in early trade.
Meanwhile, the Australian dollar fell by 0.3% to $0.705 after the Reserve Bank of Australia kept interest rates unchanged.
