CRA Workshop Reviews ICT Competition Framework Developments

Doha:The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) recently hosted a workshop to review key developments and outcomes of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Competition Framework Review and Update for the 2024-2026 cycle. This review, launched by CRA in October 2024, aims to enhance the sector's regulatory frameworks.

According to Qatar News Agency, The workshop gathered representatives from government entities, telecommunications service providers, ICT service users, technology providers, small and medium-sized IT enterprises, system integrators, digital platforms, and industry experts. During the event, CRA presented an updated market definition methodology and the finalized list of Candidate and Relevant Markets for the Market Definition and Dominance Designation (MDDD) review.

CRA also outlined the updated ex-post Competition Policy and the next steps for completing the MDDD review. This includes consultations on dominance designations and proposed regulatory remedies. Since October 2024, CRA has engaged in a comprehensive process involving public consultations and direct stakeholder engagement, which has informed their analysis of competitive conditions and market developments.

The review is part of CRA's efforts to promote sustainable competition, provide regulatory clarity, and support investment and innovation in the ICT sector. It also aims to protect consumer interests and adapt to changing market conditions, enhancing access to high-quality ICT services.

These efforts align with the Digital Agenda 2030, the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030, and Qatar National Vision 2030.
