Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and US Strategists Discuss Stabilizing Bilateral Relations and Upcoming Summit

WASHINGTON — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during his current visit to the United States, engaged in discussions with U.S. strategists focused on stabilizing and improving the bilateral relationship between the two major powers.

According to a new release by Qatar News Agency, Wang indicated that both nations conducted “in-depth, constructive and substantive strategic communication” on a range of issues of mutual concern. Despite lingering differences and disputes, both sides recognized the importance and necessity of maintaining dialogue.

The discussions also touched upon plans for an upcoming summit in San Francisco between the heads of state of both countries, aimed at stabilizing and improving bilateral relations as soon as possible.

Both parties acknowledged that a stable U.S.-China relationship serves the interests of both nations and plays a crucial role in addressing international and regional issues. Participants from the U.S. strategic community expressed disagreement with the notion that U.S.-China engagement has failed. They advocated for the resumption of dialogue across various sectors, including economy, trade, science and technology, and emphasized the need to facilitate personnel exchanges to mitigate misunderstandings and misjudgments.

The dialogue extended to multiple specific topics of concern, such as U.S.-China military exchanges, bilateral cooperation in finance, science and technology, people-to-people exchanges, China’s investment environment and market access, and ongoing international situations including the Middle East and the Ukraine crisis.
