Doha: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that his country will begin negotiations with the United States on a new trade agreement at the beginning of May, warning that what that the trade actions taken by U.S. President Donald Trump has started to impact the Canadian labor market. In statements made on Friday, the Canadian Prime Minister said he is working to ensure that the next government is in the best possible position for negotiations with the United States, noting that the two sides agreed to start talks in May. According to Qatar News Agency, Carney warned that the trade dispute is leading to tightening financial conditions and early signs of a global economic slowdown, with negative effects on the Canadian job market. The Canadian Prime Minister had a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump last March, during which they agreed to discuss the future of trade relations between the two countries. On April 9, the Canadian government announced the implementation of new tariff measures, inc luding a 25% duty on imports of certain types of American cars. This was in response to a similar move by the Trump administration, which imposed tariffs on Canada's automotive sector. Canada is the United States' largest trading partner.
