The Department of Antiquities in Kurdistan Region's Duhok province announced today discoveries dating back to the Bronze Age in Tell Komel, located in the Sheikhan District. Director of the Department of Antiquities, Beks Brevkani, explained in a press statement that the department, in cooperation with the Italian University of Udine, has resumed excavation and research operations in this archaeological area. He said that excavation work is currently underway in two main archaeological sites in Tell Komel, the first of which is a group of diverse buildings, including bedrooms and lounges, where many artifacts of historical importance have been uncovered. Among these discoveries, a number of ancient jars were found that contained the remains of bones of eight newborn children, indicating ancient burial rituals that were practiced during that period, according to Brevkani.
