Amman: The Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) launched on Wednesday at the University of Jordan (UJ) an awareness program entitled "Promoting the participation of young men and women in elections and parties", in cooperation with the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, and with the support of UN Women. The program included an interactive theatrical show, "Your Voice Makes a Difference," performed by the National Theater Team at the King Hussein Foundation's National Center for Arts Culture, written by Muhannad Al-Nawafleh and directed by Saba Obeidat, which will be presented in 9 Jordanian universities in the three regions of the Kingdom (North, Central and South) during August. Maha Ali, JNCW Secretary General, explained the importance of implementing the program as the target group is young Jordanian university students, who are the pillar of the country and its future, and the main driver of change towards achieving development, stressing the importance of women's participation i n elected councils, and supporting young people to participate and enhance their role in society. The Secretary General of the Ministry of Political Affairs, Ali Al-Khawaldeh, said that the goal of the program is to increase youth participation in the political process, especially in the parliamentary elections that will be held on September 10, adding that all citizens are concerned with participating in voting, as it is their duty and right to choose who represents them. He stressed that the Ministry and the various partner institutions in the program believe that youth are the most receptive to education and capable of change and correction, pointing to the important opportunity they have today to evaluate the political and electoral programs that will be presented by the parties a few days later, vote for them based on competence and objectivity, and choose those that represent their ambition and priorities in implementing programs related to various sectors such as education, health, the economy, and o thers. For her part, the Assistant Representative of UN Women - Jordan Office, Bushra Abu Shahout, emphasized the importance of the role of young men and women in facing challenges and building the future, which requires utilizing the knowledge, skills and energies of this group, and motivating them to engage in community and public work. For her part, Nahed Umaysh, UJ Vice President for Humanitarian Colleges Affairs, International Relations and Partnerships, called on students and attendees to take advantage of the opportunities granted by the electoral and party laws and actively participate in the electoral process.
