ASME AND SCHLUMBERGER HOLD CAD COMPETITION

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) with cooperation with Schlumberger recently hosted a Computer Aided Design (CAD) competition.

About 30 person, including undergraduate and graduate students, participated in the competition, which organizers said was a great opportunity for the students to show off their CAD skills, learn new techniques, and add bonus points to their academic course, MEEN 210.

At the beginning of the competition, Schlumberger’s representative gave a brief introduction on the nature of work of the oil and gas companies. Schlumberger is one of the foremost oilfields services company.

The competition started with competitors using SolidWorks to design a Gate Valve within one hour. The designs were graded against a rubric created by ASME and Schlumberger.

Asad Abu Alrub, Khalid Al Halabi and Hussein Al Jawad were announced competition winners.
