Doha: HE President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani has extended an invitation to the youth of Asia to gather in Doha for the 21st Asian Games in 2030. This invitation marks the transition of the Games from Japan to Qatar, symbolizing a continuation of the mission and values across the continent.
According to Qatar News Agency, Sheikh Joaan made this announcement during the closing ceremony of the 20th Asian Games held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. He emphasized that Qatar is ready to welcome all of Asia to Doha, known as "the city for everyone," and encouraged the youth to carry the spirit of the Games as they look forward to the next event.
Sheikh Joaan praised the high standards of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Games, which saw the breaking of over 350 records, including more than 50 world records, setting a new benchmark for the Asian Games. He highlighted the dramatic comebacks, last-minute victories, and the emergence of new stars, alongside the ongoing success of seasoned champions, noting the exemplary sportsmanship and mutual respect demonstrated by the athletes.
His Excellency also congratulated the Organizing Committee, the Japanese Olympic Committee, Aichi Prefecture, the City of Nagoya, and the Japanese government for successfully hosting the Games. He acknowledged the role of the 45 Asian National Olympic Committees, partners, sponsors, broadcasters, and the enthusiastic support from the local residents and volunteers, all of whom contributed to the success of the event.
Sheikh Joaan concluded by stating that the end of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Games marks the beginning of a new era for Asian sport. While the physical flame of the Games may be extinguished, the hopes and aspirations it ignited will continue to shine throughout Asia.
