Artists, Academics to QNA: Drama a Mirror to Reflect Values of Religion, Cultural Heritage, Community Issues

Artists and academics have praised the Qatari achievement in drama production that is inspired by the spiritual values and cultural heritage of the Arab and Islamic nation.

In exclusive statements to Qatar News Agency , they noted the educational dimensions of this drama production, its role in educating and celebrating national and religious symbols, and strengthening the connection of generations and young people with their symbols and their history. They pointed to the need to develop the capabilities of talented people to advance this field through education and continuous education, in line with society’s continuous need for art and creativity in its various forms, as it is the most prestigious method for discussing issues, asking questions, and expressing the aspirations of man and society.

Faculty member of the Community College and director Saad Burshid said that TV drama is of great importance because it reflects human issues in their social and cultural dimensions and their educational and historical depth, and contributes to addressing various issues through education and entertainment. Therefore, most audiences in the Arab world gather around TV sets to watch their concerns, issues and questions reflected in the drama, he said, pointing to the drama’s ability to absorb and address many important issues from the nation’s heritage to issues of contemporary society to the concerns of the individual.

He noted Qatar TV’s major role in producing and broadcasting drama, which represents a mirror reflecting people’s permanent and renewed need for art and artistic expression, as one of the highest forms of human expression, as drama remained a mirror reflecting the values of religion and heritage, children’s rights and various community issues.

Director and actor Faleh Fayez said that the Qatari experience in the field of drama production presented distinct models linked to the cultural, social and educational values of the holy month, through various treatments and works in drama production with its religious, heritage and social dimensions, in addition to dramatic works targeting children, stressing that the educational dimensions of drama production are evident in the works directed to children with an aim to enhance the love of the Arabic language, culture and the arts, or that provide dramatic treatments for issues of concern to children, and contribute to inculcating the values of courage, nobility and love of science.

He explained that the Qatari experience is full of outstanding contributions by writers, directors, actors and technical teams that left a clear imprint in this field.

For his part, writer and director Ahmed Al Muftah stressed the necessity of upgrading drama and its proportionality with the importance of the month of Ramadan and its status, and taking into account its privacy in the heart, spirit and thought of the fasting person, and the feelings and emotions that abound in his conscience, and that this should be reflected in what is presented in a drama that is consistent with the values, connotations and meanings of the holy month.

He pointed out that the Qatari drama had a great contribution to enhancing the educational dimension and cultural depth of the month of Ramadan by drawing inspiration from the biographies of many prominent personalities in Islamic history.
