Arab, regional nations, organizations welcome Security Council resolution calling for cease-fire in Gaza


Amman: A group of Arab and regional nations and organizations applauded the Security Council’s accomplishment in passing a resolution 14 members supported it, with the United States abstaining that demanded an immediate ceasefire in Gaza for the first time.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia welcomed the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during the holy month of Ramadan, which would lead to a permanent and sustainable ceasefire, compliance by the parties with their obligations under international law, expanding the scope of humanitarian aid to civilians throughout the Gaza Strip, and improving their protection.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the Kingdom has reiterated its call for the international community to take responsibility for putting an end to the Israeli occupation’s attacks on civilians in the Gaza Strip. The Kingdom has emphasized the need to put an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people, give them hope, and enable them to achieve their rights
to live in safety and self-determination by providing a viable and unbreakable path toward the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and pertinent international resolutions.

The Sultanate of Oman also praised the UN Security Council resolution that demanded an immediate end to hostilities in the Palestinian territories and the unhindered delivery of supplies and humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
