The 162nd meeting of the Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers, chaired by Yemen, which takes over the presidency from Mauritania, will begin on Tuesday at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (LAS).
The meeting will be attended by Arab foreign ministers and heads of delegations, in addition to Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and a number of prominent international figures, such as Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini and United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Gaza Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator Sigrid Kaag.
The council will discuss ways to stop the ongoing Israeli aggression against Gaza and the West Bank and the genocidal crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people.
The council will also discuss taking political, diplomatic and legal measures to stop the aggressive Is
raeli policies that seek to displace the Palestinian people from their land, as a gross violation of international humanitarian law and a threat to Arab national security.
The meeting agenda also includes items on the Palestinian issue and the Arab-Israeli conflict, with a focus on following up on political developments, activating the Arab Peace Initiative, Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem, Arab water security issues, water theft by Israel, and the occupied Syrian Golan.
The meeting will also discuss the situation in a number of Arab countries, such as Libya, Yemen, Sudan and Somalia, in addition to solidarity with Lebanon, security of navigation and energy supplies in the Arabian Gulf region, and the Ethiopian Dam.
