Arab Family Forum Discusses Family Role in Achieving SDGs

The activities of the Arab Family Forum kicked off Monday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo, under the title “Sustaining the Family’s Role in Community Development”, and it will continue for two days.

Under the auspices of the Arab League, the Forum is organized by the Arab Federation for Sustainable Development and the Environment, the General Union of Arab Experts and the Arab Family Council for Developments.

The sessions of the Forum discuss the responsibility of international organizations in strengthening the role of the family in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs), instilling values of tolerance in societies, establishing a culture of peace in post-conflict countries, and the role of national legislation.

It also addresses the impact of modern means of communication and traditional and electronic media on family relations, and the role of the family in the sustainability of the economic and cultural development of society. The forum also seeks to suggest programs, projects and plans aimed at the advancement of the Arab family.

The Forum comes within the framework of the United Nations celebrations of the International Day of Families, which falls on May 15 of each year. The Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993 with resolution to shed light on the importance the international community attaches to families; and to provides an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families and to increase the knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting families.
