Doha, Director of Communications and Marketing at the Local Organizing Committee for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup Qatar Hassan Rabeea Al Kuwari revealed that the date for releasing the second batch of tournament tickets will be announced. Qatar will host the continental championship from Jan. 12 to Feb. 10, 2024. He also mentioned that the organizing committee will announce the specific mechanism for releasing this batch in parallel with the official agreement with the Asian Football Confederation.
Al Kuwari said in an exclusive interview with the Qatar News Agency that, as previously announced, the first batch of tickets sold out, with over 150,000 tickets sold, representing about 15 percent of the total number of tickets for the 51 tournament matches. It has also been announced that tournament tickets will be released in stages and at different times.
He added that tickets sold in the first stage covered all the matches, with the opening match, semi-finals, and final receiving the largest share. Moreover, more than 81,000 tickets were sold within the first 24 hours of the initial sale stage, which started on Oct. 10 .
Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and India have been the top countries in terms of purchasing tickets.
Al Kuwari emphasized that the tickets witnessed great diversity among fans who rushed to obtain them early. He confirmed that the local organizing committee would determine the number of sale stages based on the number of tickets sold in each stage.
He also disclosed the presence of a ticket resale platform that will be announced later, which will play a significant role, especially if the tickets allocated for the tournament run out.
In the same context, Al Kuwari said that hospitality programs would be available at the tournament matches in collaboration with Match, the commercial partner of the Asian Football Confederation, which managed the program during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. There has been significant interest in the program, whether in private suites, Skybox, or hospitality seats, through coordination with the Asian Confederation.
Al Kuwari noted that the registration for volunteers for the continental championship would be closed in the coming days once the specified number of approximately 6,000 volunteers are selected.
He said that when the program was initially launched, the aim was to enlist 6,000 volunteers. Yet the number of applications received was close to 30,000 applications after a few days of opening registrations. He added that the number currently stands at 50,000, clearly demonstrating the high level of interest among volunteers and their keen enthusiasm to participate in the continental event.
He further highlighted the importance of volunteers after their outstanding experience during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and their role in the success of the event. He commended the substantial efforts put forth by all volunteers in various aspects and their dedicated commitment to the success of tournaments by performing various roles. (MORE)
