Ishikawa: An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 struck Ishikawa and other central Japan prefectures, but no tsunami warning was issued. According to Qatar News Agency, the Japan Meteorological Agency stated that the epicenter of the quake was located at a depth of 7 km. Hokuriku Electric Power Co. reported that no abnormalities were detected at the Shika nuclear power plant in Ishikawa. There have been no reports of casualties or material losses as a result of the earthquake. Japan's geographic location at the convergence of four tectonic plates makes it particularly susceptible to seismic activity. The country is also home to 100 active volcanoes. In 2011, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake devastated Japan, triggering a tsunami that killed more than 15,000 people and caused a disaster at the Fukushima nuclear plant.
