The Independent Election Commission (IEC), Chief Commissioner, Musa Al-Maaytah said on Tuesday that about 515,000 Jordanian expatriates did not cast their votes because they are outside Jordan, although their names are listed in the final voter rolls, according to the data of the Ministry of Interior. In a press conference held at the media centre, Al-Maaytah added that the election law does not allow expatriates to vote while they are outside the Kingdom, stressing that the objective percentage if expatriates participate in the electoral process is approximately 36%. Al-Maaytah pointed out that the total voting rate in the Kingdom reached 32.25 per cent, an increase of 250,000 voters from the previous elections, representing an increase in the number of voters by 18 per cent. Counting operations have begun in all polling centres in the Kingdom, according to Al-Maaytah, adding that the operations are proceeding accurately, and that the preliminary results will be announced through the dedicated platform on https://results.iec.jo, to be available to everyone in real time. The total number of voters reached 1,638,351, with males making up 52 per cent of the total number of voters, while females accounted for 48 per cent. Al-Maaytah confirmed that the preliminary results will be announced as soon as the counting process is completed in 18 constituencies, and will include the number of votes obtained by each list and party lists.
