5.2-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Aceh Province in Indonesia

An earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Tuesday Aceh province, western Indonesia.

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) said that the epicenter of the earthquake occurred 83 km southwest of Sabang city, located in the province, at a depth of 102 km.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or material losses as a result of the earthquake.

Indonesia is exposed to earthquakes regularly due to its location on the Pacific belt known as the Ring of Fire where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
