Kumamoto: A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture on Japan's southern island of Kyushu on Wednesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) stated that the earthquake's epicenter was at a depth of 10 km. There have been no reports of casualties or damage following the seismic event.

This earthquake occurs as Kumamoto Prefecture continues its recovery efforts from a powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck on July 28, resulting in the death of 38 people. The recent event has kept authorities vigilant for any potential aftershocks or emergencies.

Japan's geographical location at the convergence of four tectonic plates makes it particularly susceptible to seismic activity. The nation is also home to approximately 100 active volcanoes.
