4.6-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Russia’s Kurilsk City

Doha: An earthquake measuring 4.6 magnitude on the Richter scale struck on Wednesday southeast of Kurilsk, a city in Russia's Kuril Islands.

According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said that the quake occurred at a depth of 35 km and was located 124 km southeast of Kurilsk.

Earthquakes regularly strike various parts of the Pacific Ring of Fire, including the Kuril Islands, due to their location at the intersection of several tectonic plates, which causes frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
