An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck the province of Salta, northwest of Argentina, on Wednesday.
The US Geological Survey said in a statement that the tremor occurred 52 km southeast of San Antonio de los Cobres, at a depth of 196.6 km.
There have been no reports of casualties or material damage.
A 5-magnitude earthquake struck the city of Mendoza in western Argentina in March.
