Doha: The Qatar Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) announced on Monday that three novels in literary criticism from Jordan have been selected in three categories for the 10th edition of the Katara Prize for Arabic Novel, with a total of 36 novels and critical studies eligible to win the award. Katara announced the list of the best participating novels, which includes nine novels in each of the categories of published novels, unpublished novels, unpublished young adults' novels, and unpublished critical studies. The list of nine in the unpublished young adults' novels category includes novelists from seven Arab countries, including three from Egypt and one each from Kuwait, the UAE, Algeria, Jordan, Syria, and Morocco. The unpublished critical studies category also includes critics from seven Arab countries, with Morocco participating with three critical studies and one each from Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, Iraq, Algeria and Tunisia. As for the category of historical novels, it includes novelists from four Ara b countries, with Egypt topping the list with four novels, followed by Iraq and Morocco with two novels each, and one novel from Jordan. The list includes published novels by novelists from 6 Arab countries, with Egypt topping the list with 4 novels, and one novel each from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon. As for the category of unpublished novels, it included novelists from 7 Arab countries, with Morocco topping the list with 3 novels, and one novel from Egypt, Syria, Yemen, Algeria, Libya and Mauritania. The number of entries in the 2024 Katara Prize amounted to 1697, and the number of unpublished novels participating in this session was 886, while the number of published novels amounted to 437 published in 2023, 177 entries in the unpublished young adults' novels category, 91 participations in the unpublished studies category, 7 published Qatari novels, and 99 unpublished historical novels in the sixth category of the award, in addition to 7 published Qatari novels, and 99 unpublished historical novels.
