2023 Marked as Bloodiest Year for Palestinians, Jordanian Foreign Minister Says

Amman – Jordan’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, declared 2023 as the bloodiest year for Palestinians in over a decade. This statement was made during a joint press conference with the Foreign Ministers of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon, and Portugal, Joao Cravinho.

According to Jordan News Agency, Safadi emphasized the urgency of international collaboration to halt Israeli aggression against Gaza. He accused Israel of attacking those who oppose its policies or call for a ceasefire in Gaza and urged the international community to address the Israeli escalation against Palestinians. Safadi also criticized Israel for boycotting an upcoming Union for the Mediterranean meeting in Barcelona, asserting that Israel must be held accountable for war crimes in Gaza, which he referred to as “genocide.” He warned against the displacement of Gazans, stating it would only worsen the situation.

The Slovenian Minister Fajon echoed Jordan’s concerns and called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, advocating for substantial humanitarian aid to the region. The Portuguese Minister Cravinho also opposed the displacement of Gazans, underscoring the necessity for diplomatic and political solutions and advocating for the two-state solution. He affirmed Portugal’s support for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and recognized the integral connection between the West Bank and Gaza.
