Qatari Newspaper Editorials

Doha: Qatari newspaper editorials on Saturday criticized the recent stance of the UN Security Council on the Palestinian issue, particularly its recent failure to grant full membership to the State of Palestine and its continuous support for Israeli occupation through the use of veto power.

In this context, the newspaper stressed that the State of Qatar rejects the state of helplessness towards the Palestinian issue, reflecting its ongoing efforts at various levels to support the resilience of the Palestinian people financially, morally, and politically.

In its editorial titled “The UN Security Council hijacks international decision,” Al Raya newspaper stated that the Palestinian issue has yet to see a just and comprehensive resolution since the UN resolution to partition Palestine on November 29, 1947. The world’s conscience has not awakened to establish the Palestinian state, with its capital in occupied Jerusalem, on the borders of June 4, 1967, even after seven and a half decades, during which a great i
njustice has been inflicted upon the people of Palestine, who have been displaced and expelled from their homeland.

The newspaper added that Palestine is now a victim of heinous, criminal occupation, committing the worst crimes in history, while Gaza is witnessing massacres and destruction, with its residents being displaced, all under the watch of the Security Council, which failed to accept full membership for the State of Palestine.

The editorial criticized the Security Council for hijacking international decisions, stating that it is divided and incapable of guaranteeing global security and stability. The paper added that Qatar rejects the international paralysis regarding the Palestinian issue, seeing the Security Council’s failure to adopt the resolution in favor of the Palestinian state as yet another demonstration of its inability to fulfill its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, especially amid the brutal war on Gaza, which has resulted in the worst humanitarian catas
trophe witnessed in the twenty-first century.

Al Raya underscored that the State of Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to defending Palestinian rights in international forums by exposing the practices of the occupation, alongside Qatari efforts to support the resilience of the Palestinian people financially, morally, and politically. Qatar will spare no effort in supporting its brothers in confronting Israeli war crimes.

The editorial concluded by emphasizing that despite international paralysis and the significant injustice against the Palestinian people, and despite global attention being diverted to peripheral issues, the Palestinian issue will remain Qatar’s foremost concern. Qatar’s position remains steadfast in advocating for the justice of the Palestinian issue and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their full right to establish an independent state on the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.
