The State of Qatar participated in the 6th meeting of the Tourism Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states held in AlUla, in the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Bandar bin Mohammed Al Attiyah headed the delegation of the State of Qatar participating in the meeting.
During the meeting, projects related to strengthening joint Gulf action, especially in the field of tourism, strategic partnerships between the GCC and other countries and groups, and a number of topics that contribute to the development of common tourism fields in the GCC were discussed.
The meeting adopted the Gulf Tourism Strategy, and the launch of the Gulf Tourism Platform, the nomination guide for the tourism capital of the GCC, and the reference guide for tourism in the GCC countries.
In a speech before the meeting, HE Bandar Al Attiyah pointed to the imminent launch of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, underlying the importance of the tournament and the expected results of its organization, especially for visitors to know about the distinguished experiences and activities offered by the State of Qatar and the region in the fields of tourism, art, culture, and entertainment, in addition to discovering the inherent hospitality of the Gulf and Arab people.
HE expressed Qatar’s appreciation for the brotherly relations linking the Gulf states, stressing Qatar’s belief in joint cooperation to develop and strengthen the tourism sector, especially since GCC countries possess tourism potentials that can benefit everyone.
HE the Ambassador thanked the leadership and government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the services provided, and its active participation in facilitating the hosting of this first tournament of its kind in the Middle East, noting all the facilities provided for visitors’ entry and the tournament in general.
HE emphasized the importance of the historical AlUla, which is considered an important tourist destination in the Kingdom, explaining its unique location enabled it to be a meeting hub for civilizations and made it the first Saudi site inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
