GAC: 16 New Companies Joined ‘Authorized Economic Operator’ Program

General Authority of Customs (GAC) announced that 16 new companies have joined GAC’s program dubbed: ‘Authorized Economic Operator,’ which is being implemented to upgrade partnership and cooperation with private sector companies.

GAC called on other companies to fulfill the set criteria regarding the requirements for joining the program and receiving the facilitations of customs clearance.

Assistant of GAC Chairman for Customs Affairs, Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi, handed over the certificates of joining the program to 16 representatives of companies which proved their compliance with the international conditions and requirements with respect to supply chain in the international trade.

Through the aforementioned program, GAC aims to upgrade partnerships and cooperation with the private sector and grant facilitation and merits to the parties participating in the supply chain of international trade after they prove that they have complied with the internationally approved criteria of safety and securit
y, including reduction of customs restrictions, shipments inspection, and vetting procedures, as well as prompt release of imported and exported merchandise of these companies.

Under an array of conditions and criteria, GAC grants facilitation and merits to the companies that overtly comply with these criteria. Based on GACs evaluation, companies are trusted and considered economic operators and qualified parties that contribute to bolstering the supply chain in international trade.

The program is applied in many world countries because it has been subjected to approved international criteria by the World Customs Organization (WCO), GAC outlined, emphasizing that the project is one of the most important customs projects currently being applied after it had achieved remarkable progress since its inception many years ago, GAC said.

It added that further upgradation and multiple facilitations are being added to encompass all components of the supply chain and international trade, in addition to forging mutual
recognition agreements with the commercial companies of Qatar to contribute to economic development and providing further support and facilitation services to the joined companies.
