Chinese Foreign Minister Visits Washington on Thursday

Washington, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Washington from October 26 to 28, senior Joe Biden administration officials said.

Wang will meet with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will discuss a range of bilateral, regional, and global issues as part of ongoing efforts to responsibly manage the US-China relationship and to maintain open channels of communication.

Wang will also meet with White House national security advisor Jake Sullivan, the officials said, declining to say if he will meet with Biden as well.

The long-anticipated visit comes amid soaring tensions in the Middle East, which US officials hope Beijing can help contain.

Wang will be the highest-ranking Chinese official to visit the US in nearly five years.

Relations between Washington and Beijing have deteriorated to their worst levels in decades, and the trade restrictions imposed by the United States on China were at the top of their differences.
