5 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Maluku Province in Indonesia

An earthquake measuring 5 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Maluku Province in eastern Indonesia on Thursday.

According to a statement by the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics, the epicenter of the earthquake occurred 99 kilometers from the Barat Daya Pursilatan islands in the province, at a depth of 10 kilometers. The meteorological agency warned of possible aftershocks.

There have been no reports of material damage or human losses so far.

Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
