Palestinian Affairs Department head condemns Israeli raids in Palestinian towns

Department of Palestinian Affairs (DPA) Director Rafiq Khirfan Sunday condemned Israeli violations against the Palestinian people, including raids into Palestinian cities and a decision to accelerate the growth of Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank. In remarks at the the 110th session of Supervisors on Palestinian Affairs in the Host Arab Countries Conference at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, Khirfan said that settlement expansion and displacement of people from their homes is a flagrant violation of the international law and international legitimacy resolutions, foremost of which is UN Security Council resolution 2334. He reaffirmed Jordan's clear position and commitment to the national constants vis-a-vis the Palestinian issue with the aim to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution, and set up an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Khirfan also reiterated Jordan's continued support of the steadfastness of Jerusalemites in the occupied city to confront Israeli attempts to impose a fait accompli, change the Arab identity and Islamic and Christian cultural heritage and change the demographic structure of the population there. He said the government continues to improve the living conditions, services and development of Palestinian refugees in Jordan through development projects implemented under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II in the 13 refugee camps in the Kingdom. Jordan, he added, also continues supporting UNRWA, the UN agency providing services to Palestinian refugees, calling it the umbrella of the refugees, in order to help the agency carry out its obligations and mandate towards millions of refugees. The Palestinian affairs department's head said UNRWA had received strong political support and $13 million in additional pledges at a recent conference in New York.
