Lebanon’s Minister of Defense Highlights Country’s Commitment to International Human Rights Agreements

Today, Lebanese Minister of Defense in the caretaker government, Maurice Sleem, met with Clement Nyaletsossi Voule, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association, who is currently visiting Lebanon.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the status of civil liberties, particularly the freedom of assembly, Lebanon’s implementation of its international commitments in this regard, the challenges facing these freedoms in the region and in Lebanon, mechanisms for their protection, and how to provide assistance in this area.

The Lebanese Minister of Defense reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the laws and international agreements related to human rights. He also emphasized the need for awareness of the risks of this period in light of the various security incidents occurring in different regions of Lebanon. He underscored that the army and security forces serve as a guarantee of security and stability.
