Jordan condemned Thursday the tearing up of a copy of the Quran by an "extremist" in Stockholm, Sweden, under police protection. "This is a reckless act that fuels hatred and is a manifestation of Islamophobia that incites violence and insult to religions," according to a Foreign Ministry statement. The Ministry affirmed in its statement the "need" to respect religious symbols and to stop acts and practices that fuel hatred and discrimination. "The Swedish authorities again allowing this extremist to attack the Holy Quran is an unacceptable behaviour that stirs discord and threatens peaceful coexistence and cannot be considered a form of freedom of expression," the strong-worded statement reads. The Ministry warned against allowing such "irresponsible behaviour and actions."
