CEO of Mowasalat Reveals Plan for Complete Transition to Clean Energy within Two Years

CEO of Mowasalat Fahad Saad Al Qahtani has revealed a plan for a complete transition to clean energy in the State of Qatar within two years, pointing out that the use of e-buses in the public transport system has reached more than 70 percent, according to the Ministry of Transport’s plan for environmental sustainability.

In an interview with Qatari newspaper Al-Sharq published Monday, Mowasalat’s CEO said that there were around 909 e-buses, which were used during the World Cup, and were completely converted into the public transit system, out of a total of 3,000 buses dedicated to transporting fans during the World Cup only, adding that about 5,000 buses were operated during the tournament for hospitality and security services, as well as various other support services. Work is now underway in coordination with the relevant authorities to distribute charging stations in various areas in the country, in preparation to fully transition to the use of e-buses within a plan issued by the Ministry of Transport,
he said, adding that this transition is expected to be reached within the next two years.

He pointed out that Mowasalat is working according to the highest standards and uses modern technology within the control rooms to communicate with its fleets and drivers everywhere, noting that the company is working in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to transport 60,000 students daily, using 2,500 school buses equipped with all security and safety means.

Al Qahtani underlined that the path taken by the company for development was based on two main axes, which are the environmental sustainability and technology in general, which help the company achieve many leaps over the years, stressing that Mowasalat is part of the global events hosted by the country, which is considered an addition to the companys experience and development. ging such mega events, and also at the level of infrastructure, he said, adding that after that Mowasalat achieved great and different progress, benefiting from these experiences and applying them in its system.

Regarding joint cooperation with various other entities within the country, he said that successes cannot be achieved except through joint cooperation with various sectors of the State, and there are contracts with government sectors that request various services from the company, as well as cooperation with the private sector, which is considered a strategic partner of Mowasalat, as most buses and light cars are brought from the private sector.

About the availability of transport services in areas outside Doha, the CEO of Mowasalat explained that today they have turned to smart solutions, where the public are able through the “Karwa Taxi” App to request the type of vehicle they need at any time and in any place, with more focus on tourist places in the country and the public location sites.

On the
future plans and strategy of Mowasalat, Al Qahtani said that at Mowasalat, they seek to achieve clean public transportation that contributes to the development of sustainability in Qatar, and to increase digitization in all possible fields through available Apps, as well as the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the company’s systems, adding that a large part of sustainability is achieved by investing in employees, by providing a comfortable work environment that encourages them to continue for a long time, and providing them with residential, service and entertainment facilities, in addition to appropriate training, each according to his competence.
