WESTEROS a new winner for Al Shaqab Racing

In the colours of owner and breeder Al Shaqab Racing, WESTEROS (Kingman x Umm Bab) opened his scorecard at Pornichet, France, on the all-weather on Saturday, 23 January, evening. The 4-year-old colt, trained by Simone Brogi, was having just his third start in competition in the Prix Ile de Brehat. He debuted in May last year for a promising second place for trainer André Fabre and followed up with another second place in June. Injury then took him off the track until his winning return under his new trainer.

Ridden by Ioritz Medizabal, WESTEROS was drawn to the outside and so his jockey let him go forward leaving the stalls to sit behind the leaders on the turning track. Well-positioned, he ran slightly free in the early stages of the 1700m race before settling into his stride. Once in the home straight, the track opened up and he came quickly to join the leaders. He just held off a fast-finishing KING WOOTY (Wootton Bassett x Kerosene Noire) to win by a nose.

By leading sire KINGMAN, WESTEROS is the first foal out of the unraced Sea The Stars mare UMM BAB.
