US confirms 10 more locally-transmitted Zika cases, total 14 – official

WASHINGTON, Aug 1 (KUNA) — The US confirmed 10 additional Zika virus cases transmitted by local mosquitoes, bringing the total number to 14, an official said on Monday.
All cases have been recorded in Florida, and local state officials believe active transmission is restricted to a single “square mile (2.6 sq/km) area of Miami,” Florida Governor Rick Scott said in a statement.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will issue a notice to women who are pregnant or planning to get pregnant to avoid unnecessary travel to the impacted area which is just north of downtown Miami, he added.
According to the CDC website, numbers recorded up until July 27 reveal a total 1,658 cases discovered throughout the US. (end)
