UN envoy warns against deteriorating economic conditions in Yemen

KUWAIT, June 8 (KUNA) — UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said that failure to address the worsening economic conditions in Yemen would have dire consequences on the civilian life.
“The delegates to the ongoing peace talks in Kuwait are solely able to bring about a change to the situation in their country,” he said in a press release Wednesday night.
“The UN-facilitated peace talks cannot move forward unless the stakeholders offer mutual concession,” he stressed.
Earlier today, the Special Envoy met the representatives of the Yemeni government, Ansarullah movement and the General People’s Congress in a bid to bringing closer their view points on such issues as pullout from residential areas and laying down of arms.
He also met Kuwait’s Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Suleiman Al-Jarallah who renewed his country’s support to the talks. (pickup previous) hrz.nam.gb
