UN Agencies Call on Trump to Allow Refugees Entry

Geneva, The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and International Organization for Migration (IOM) called on the US President Donald Trump’s administration on Saturday to continue offering asylum to people fleeing war and persecution, stressing the importance of the US resettlement program.

UNHCR and IOM said in a joint statement: “The needs of refugees and migrants worldwide have never been greater and the US resettlement program is one of the most important in the world”.

IOM and UNHCR remain committed to working with the US Administration towards the goal we share to ensure safe and secure resettlement and immigration programmes, the statement added.

US President Donald Trump on Friday ordered a 120-day hold on allowing refugees into the United States.
