UAE Embassy hosts 46th National Day celebrations in London’s Natural History Museum.

This year the UAE Embassy in the UK was the centre of much diplomatic activity in the lead up to the 46th UAE National Day.

The official inauguration of the Embassy’s new premises had taken place days earlier in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The 46th UAE National Day was held at one of the most historic and prestigious venues in London, the Natural History Museum, NHM. In attendance was Minister of Infrastructure Development, Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, and the UK Minister of State for the Department for International Development and Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Alistair Burt.

The 760 guests in attendance consisted of Lords, Members of Parliament, high-level diplomats and key leaders from the international business community.

The event was held with a theme entitled ‘Youth Empowerment’, in keeping with the UAE Government’s vision. Nine of the UAE’s best post-graduate students in the UK highlighted the UAE’s achievements through high-tech visual presentations projected on freestanding screens throughout the historic Hintze Hall. Guests were able to walk through and interact with the students, asking questions as they watched the footage on history, culture, environment and energy, and humanitarian aid. Traditional Yola and songs by Emirati singer Faissal Jassim filled the first half of the evening before a military band played the anthems of the UK and the UAE.

During the event, Sulaiman Hamed Al Mazrouei, UAE Ambassador to the United Kingdom, gave a rousing speech after being introduced by an Emirati PhD student from Imperial College who MC’d the event.

Alistair Burt was also invited to give a speech wherein he emphasised bilateral cooperation and the historical ties between the two nations.

The acclaimed Arab-British classical ensemble, Oxford Maqam, took to the stage to play as guests continued to enjoy the festivities until the end of this momentous event.
