U.S. official appreciates Kuwait role in supporting inter-Yemeni consultations

By Hanadi Albloushi KUWAIT, June 30 (KUNA) — U.S. Under Secretary for Political Affairs Ambassador Thomas Shannon appreciated the unremitting efforts of Kuwait in supporting the Yemen peace talks which have been hosted by Kuwait for more than two months.
Shannon told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), on sidelines of an official visit to the country, that Kuwait is playing an important role in establishing peace and stability in the region with the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
He expressed hopes the Yemeni parties would capitalize on “the peace talks,” which were launched under the UN sponsorship last April to find a final solution for the Yemen crisis and to put an end for the Yemenis’ suffering.
He confirmed that the US is ready to establish full cooperation with Kuwait to end the Yemeni’s conflict with much appreciation to the Kuwaiti leadership.
Shannon added that had met with the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, discussing bilateral relations between the two countries and a number of common-interest issues.
He pointed out that the meeting discussed was to enlarge the cooperation between Kuwait and US to find solutions for the current regional problems, namely with regard of countering the “Islamic State” (IS) or establishing peace in Yemen, saying that the frequency of “our discussion on these and other issues is testament to the importance of US-Kuwait friendship.” (end) hjb.rk
