U.A.E. paper: Congratulations to Dubai, U.A.E.

WAM ABU DHABI, 29th November, 2013 (WAM)–After a day of justified delight and euphoria at the honour that Dubai has won the right to host Expo 2020, it is time to look ahead.

At first, “there will be an immediate boost to confidence. This will be followed by six years of preparation as the necessary infrastructure and projects take shape. Over that period, there will be times when the momentum will lag, but those natural pauses for breath should not cast any long-term concern over the plans for Expo 2020,” opines English language local daily, Gulf News, in its editorial on Friday.

It added that the third phase will be the extraordinary period of the Expo itself, when more than 20 million people will come and visit Dubai and discover what it has to offer. And finally, the organisers have been clear that Expo 2020 will develop institutions, which will leave a permanent legacy for the UAE and the global community.

“Dubai’s Expo 2020 will permanently change the way the world looks at Dubai, the UAE and the Gulf. It means that the world will see Dubai as a leading centre of global innovation and one of the world’s natural hubs for business and intellectual leadership. This vital shift in international perceptions is something that is beyond value as it will move Dubai forever into the heart of the global community”, the paper said.

It added that the decision to award Expo 2020 to Dubai is a testament to Dubai’s existing position as a global hub and also recognises that Dubai has “the ability to plan an Expo that will offer the world something completely new.” The heart of Expo 2020 is to base the event on the theme of Connecting Minds, Creating the Future, combined with three focuses of mobility, sustainability and opportunity. The point of these ideas is that tomorrow’s global challenges cannot be tackled by any one nation acting alone, but can only be solved by all nations combining and taking action together.

It concludes, “This is why connecting minds, building partnerships and nurturing collaboration is vital to create a successful future for mankind and that is why Expo 2020 will make a lasting difference.” WAM/MN
