Tunisian Coast Guard Rescue 635 Migrants

The Tunisian Coast Guard units rescued 635 migrants whose boats sank at sea, and thwarted 18 illegal sea border crossings.

Coast Guard units in the governorates of Sfax ad Mahdia thwarted these operations on Friday night. They rescued 635 irregular migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa after their boats sank, spokesperson for the National Guard said in a statement reported by the official news agency (TAP).

On the other hand, and in the context of addressing irregular migration, National Guard units operating in Kasserine and Kebili arrested 26 people from sub-Saharan African countries, who illegally crossed the western land border.

The Public Prosecutor has ordered legal measures to be taken against them, according to the same source.
