TRUMP PRAISES QATAR AS GREAT HOST FOR U.S. TROOPS

DOHA, Qatar, U.S. President, Donald Trump, described Qatar as a great host for the largest U.S. military facility in the Middle East, local media reported, on Thursday.

Trump made the remarks, while holding a video teleconference with Brigadier General Jason R Armagost and members of the U.S. military, Qatar-based English newspaper, Gulf Times, reported.

”Qatar was a fantastic host,” Brigadier General Jason R Armagost, Commander of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, U.S. Air Force, based in Al-Udeid Air Base, said.

He also mentioned that, the 7,000 U.S. service personnel, who are working “24×7, 365, on providing global strike intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, airlift, and cargo and tanker operations, including defence of space controls, were well-treated across the entire Centcom.”

Earlier, in Aug, a Qatari senior official announced that, Qatar would expand two air bases, including Al-Udeid.

Al-Udeid, which is considered the largest U.S. base in the Middle East, is home to the U.S. Air Force Central Command.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt, cut diplomatic, trade and transport ties with Qatar, in Jun, 2017, accusing it of supporting terrorism.

Doha denies the charge.
