Terror suspect Salah Abdeslam poised to leave for Paris

PARIS, March 24 (KUNA) — The primary suspect in the Paris attacks, Salah Abdeslam, had told his lawyer he wanted to go to Paris “as soon as possible,” French media reported on Thursday.
This wish by the suspect was indicated by his Belgian lawyer, Sven Mary, in a statement to the TV network France 24. Abdeslam is currently in the custody of authorities in Brussels.
Following a Belgian court session looking into the Brussels attacks, Mary told reporters the court date for the appearance of his client Abdeslam had been postponed until April 7, noting that he would meet with a judge in charge of the suspect’s investigation to make sure the suspect’s departure to Paris would not be delayed.
Belgian courts last Saturday charged the suspect with ” murder and taking part in terrorist activities” and held him in custody since last Friday, after having been on the lam for nearly four months.
Earlier, Sven Mary had refused to hand over his client to French authorities, promising a legal battle against them for attempting “to violate the confidentiality of the investigation” into the charges against his client. (end) mmb.ajs
