Team Qatar Ups Ante As Rio 2016 Olympics Enter Final Half

Rio de Janeiro, – As the Rio 2016 Olympic Games enters its final half, Team Qatar’s athletes put in outstanding performances to progress to next stage of their competitions. Team Qatar excelled on the 14th August, with the equestrian show jumping team qualifying for the individual event as well as the team event, with the next qualifiers slated to be held on 16th August at 16:00 Doha time.

Team Qatar’s star high jumper Mutaz Barshim made his way to the finals, to be held on Tuesday 16th August, after clearing every height at the first attempt during the qualifying round on Sunday night. Team Qatar’s equestrian athletes will look to emulate their success on Sunday in their next rounds on 16th August.

The team, consisting of Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al-Thani, Ali Al-Rumaihi, Bassem Mohammed and Hamad Al-Attiyah, have already made history as the first every Qatari equestrian team to compete in the Olympics. The equestrian athletes qualified to the team and individual events, with Sheikh Al bin Khalid Al-Thani cruising to the next round without a single penalty point. Also on Tuesday 16th August, Team Qatar’s Femi Ogunode will take to the track in the 200m heats 17:50 Doha time. The highlight of the competition will undoubtedly be the Men’s high jump final at 02:30 am Doha time on Wednesday 17th which will see Barshim compete against the greatest high jumpers in the world in a bid to build on his previous performance in London 2012.
