Syrian opposition frees 344 km in Manbij from IS – CJTF

WASHINGTON, June 7 (KUNA) — The US-backed Syrian opposition forces freed a total of 344 km in Manbij, Syria from the so-called Islamic State (IS) since the start of their offensive, the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said Tuesday.
“The Syrian Arab Coalition is leading the operation and will be responsible for securing Manbij once it is freed,” CJTF said in a statement, adding taht advisers from the coalition are now assisting the Syrian coalition leadership.
Since the beginning of the offensive, the US-led coalition forces have conducted more than 105 strikes over Manbij.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Arab Coalition supported by coalition air power have destroyed 108 IS fighting positions, 31 vehicles, 17 heavy-weapons, two weapon caches, and one vehicle borne improvised explosive device, it added.
“The goal is to limit the flow of foreign fighters and minimize IS’ threat to Turkey, the rest of Europe, and the United States,” the statement said. (end)
